Can a Drone Chase a Flying Arrow?
I’m a fan a Rotor Riot and FPV freestyle. When I heard that Rotor Riot did an episode where they were attempting to chase an arrow in mid flight, I was excited about it!
When we first started flying FPV miniquads at our local abandoned golf course, there were still a few archery targets set up behind the clubhouse. I remember wondering if it would be possible to chase an arrow from the bow to the target. I looked up the speed of an arrow, and I was immediately discouraged.
There’s no way me or any of my friends could keep an arrow in frame while flying at 60 mph. Just because we couldn’t do it doesn’t mean it can’t be done.
Rotor Riot had Alex Vanover on hand to chase that arrow, and if anybody could pull this off, it would be him.
Did he manage to pull it off? I don’t want to give away the surprise. Rotor Riot’s video is quite good. You get to see the entire process. How fast is the arrow going to be moving? Will Alex even be able to see the arrow? How many tries will it take? Can they hit the broad side of a barn with an arrow?
You should definitely watch this 9-minute video, but if I’m just not convincing you, you can spoil things by checking out Vanover’s Instragram post about the video. Even if you do spoil things, you should go back and watch the entire video!
