UPDATE: This deal has expired. When I last checked, they were up to $12.99 with Prime shipping for a 2-pack. That’s still cheaper than most USB 3 flash drives of this size, often quite a bit cheaper, but those drives are probably faster!

There’s a sale on Amazon. You can get a two-pack of Silicon Power 64 GB USB 3.0 flash drives for $9.99. These are cheap flash drives at their regular price. This is only a $5 discount, and it looks like you get what you pay for.

The specs say the read speeds are 70 MB/s and write speeds are only 5 MB/s. Ouch.

These flash drives remind me of the 16 GB Kingston drives for $3.99 that I posted back in May. I ordered a pair of those, and I saw 110 MB/s reads and 10 MB/s writes on mine.

That’s crummy, but my slow Kingston flash drives will serve their purpose. If I need to install an operating system, sneakernet a gigabyte or two across town, or if I just need a place to store some small backups, I will reach for my slow flash drives. Especially if I’m lending data to someone that’s likely to keep the drive!

If I hadn’t already bought those 16 GB Kingston drives, I’d be ordering these Silicon Power 64 GB drives today. Heck, I may still order a pair.

For what it is worth, I did order a set of Silicon Power 64 GB microSD cards in June. I’ve been using one in my DJI Osmo Pocket, and it hasn’t given me any trouble.
